Aragon, C.J.

Class of 2025

Raised in the saddle and roping since he could walk, C.J. Aragon’s rodeo journey began in the Gem State, where he earned his first buckle in 1984 at a dummy roping contest in Twin Falls. A graduate of Kamiah High School and a regular fixture at Idaho State Finals, C.J. racked up titles in team roping and steer wrestling across Districts 3 and 6. In 1993, he was crowned Idaho Cowboys Association Rookie of the Year in both Team Roping and Steer Wrestling—a rare and hard-won double honor.
C.J. took his Idaho-born grit and built a career that’s made waves across the nation. As a PRCA member since 1996 and a 15-time Turquoise Circuit Finals qualifier, he’s no stranger to the big stage. He’s wrestled steers at the CNFR and the NIRA Finals, and even hauled to international competitions with the USA National Team. He’s a past NIRA Champion, PRCA Gold Card member, and longtime rodeo hand at the College National Finals Rodeo as both chute boss and arena director.
But perhaps C.J.’s greatest legacy lies in the more than 80 College National Finals qualifiers and over 60 NIRA Academic All-Americans he’s coached during his 17 years leading college rodeo teams. From Mesalands to Odessa to Sul Ross State, he’s shaped champions like two-time NFR cowboy Tristen Hutchings—and helped many more Idaho cowboys and cowgirls chase their own gold-buckle dreams.
Whether coaching, mentoring, raising bucking horses, or teaching the next generation how to rope and ride, C.J. Aragon carries Idaho’s cowboy spirit with him wherever he goes. His boots may now stand in Texas dirt, but his roots are planted deep in Idaho soil.
