Elaine Vail

Class of 2020

Elaine had been riding cows at jackpots and occasionally barrel racing since early high shool. She quit trying to ride cows and concentrated on running barrels. She and her husband Virg bought a strawberry roan stud colt from her folks and she began training him. “Tinky” was fast and they entered him in lots of “lap and tap” races at the rodeos. This was good for the pocket book, but bad for barrel racing control. Elain was 2nd in the ICA in 1969 and 1970 and finished in the top ten in the ICA for 10 years.
Elaine was the Barrel Racing Direcor in 1969, 1970, and 1973. She was the ICA Secretary in 1971 and 1972. She competed on Tinky until 1976, she rode several other horses but Tinky was her joy.
Elaine has helped with the attendance/registration of the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame and Legends of Rodeo for 9 years. “It’s been fun to meet old friends and make new ones every year”.
