Holmes, Greg

Class of 2022

Greg was born in Council, Idaho. He was raised on cattle ranches in Bear, Idaho and near Midvale, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho with an Animal Science Degree. He served our country in Germany for two years.
Greg started riding saddle broncs while in college and was also involved with Rodeo USA while he was in Germany. He rode saddle broncs for 18 years before retiring. He competed in the ICA, NRA, WRA, CCA and went east and competed in the IRA rodeos. Greg was the ICA Saddle Bronc Champion in 1981.
After Greg retired from saddle bronc, he spent his time raising and training colts for barrel racing with his wife Chris. They traveled throughout the Northwest going to barrel futurities as well as pro and amateur rodeos.
Greg served on the ICA Board of Directors for eight years, being vice president for two years.
In 2014 Greg and Chris established Barrels and Bibles. The goal was to give barrel racing instruction to younger riders who were just beginning but it ended up being inclusive of all ages and skill level. Each weekly clinic began with a devotional and testimonies for those who wanted to share. All who participated were given a Cowboy Bible and invited to be a part of the Barrels and Bibles family. As a member of the family there was no charge for instruction.
The hope of Chris and Greg is that the light of Jesus Christ will shine through their instruction.
